Engagement
Engagement
We believe neuroscience only reaches its full potential when it’s shared, questioned, celebrated, and challenged with the people it aims to serve. That’s why we work every day to open our doors, our labs, and our knowledge to the world around us.
We connect with patients who want to understand the science behind their conditions. We collaborate with educators who bring brain science into classrooms. And we team up with journalists, artists, and community partners to spark curiosity far beyond academic walls.
Our science communicator works hand‑in‑hand with our researchers to design outreach that’s bold, creative, and genuinely useful, while establishing several collaborations and then the support of the VIB communications team. Get in touch at neurocommunications@vib.be for press and media inquiries, potential partnerships, collaborative opportunities, community lab visits, and more.
Science Communication Team
Scientific Capacity Building
We partner with TReND in Africa (whose Executive Director is also a postdoctoral research at our Center!) to offer our scientists 5 scholarships per year to participate in scientific capacity building opportunities.
Science & Lived Experience
We partner with ALS Liga to offer our scientists opportunities to get to know the patients behind the disorders they study, and support initiatives such as the Neurodiversity at Work Guide to amplify lived experience expertise.
Art-Science Residency with Anna Dumitriu
Pioneering bioartist Anna Dumitriu has begun a residency at the VIB‑KU Leuven Center for Neuroscience, collaborating with scientists to investigate how artistic practice can engage with current questions in brain research.
Science Comics
We partner up with science illustrators, such as Rui Tavares, to produce comics about our projects and our research, further bridging the gap with society with engaging outreach materials.
